Sunday Scripture! "O, Remember, Remember"

On Friday I stayed with my mom and aunt for the last class of Women's Conf. I had no idea what class we were going to but it didn't matter to me so when the first speaker began talking about keeping records and family history I got very excited!! I have always loved journals and writing and keeping track of family stories so this sparked my interest and gave me validation in my efforts to remember.

They specifically spoke of recording the miracles that happen in our lives, it enables us to look back and see how our own faith grows and allows our descendants to know as well. I have many filled journals from over the years but have not done as well in them since keeping my blog, but I figure the blog counts! I am often teased about how often I blog or how many pictures I take but this class made me feel less crazy. They gave such great suggestions of how to record, like; pictures, journals, art, blogs. One sister spoke of women who weren't able to write everything down but took pictures or painted in order to keep a record. A women by the name of Ellen Johanna Larson Smith (1868-1965) became known for her photography because it was different from all the rest of her time. Her photos depicted real life, and not just the very serious, formal shots that we have come to know. I loved her ability to think outside the box and in result there are now amazing pictures that capture the lives and life of those in them.

For some it might seem boring or daunting to keep track and keep up but I am so grateful for all the pictures that my relatives have taken over the years. I love reading letters and journals that I have come across, it makes them all seem more real! It makes the time and energy I put into keeping up on all of it worth it!!

Henry B. Eyring gave a talk in the November 2007 Ensign entitled "O Remember, Remember" and he speaks about remembering the Lord's hand in our lives is of such importance. He said

"I wrote down a few lines every day for years. I never missed a day no matter how tired I was or how early I would have to start the next day. Before I would write, I would ponder this question: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?” As I kept at it, something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done."

In John 14:25-26 it reads

25" These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."

Thanks for sharing that. I JUST started a private (just for me) journal blog where I can write everything I want, post pictures, and then publish to a book. I'm so excited about it! So thanks for reminding me why we do these things.
