Sunday Scripture An Example of the Believers

1 Timothy 4:12

"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

I recently received this in an email from a friend and then passed it along to a few of my friends and family. Perhaps I was deeply touched because I have daughters of my own, or maybe because I work with teenaged girls in church, or possibly because some of my very best friends now and in High School were cheerleaders but most likely for all of those reasons this moved me to a few tears. I love the example that these young women set for not only their peers but for everyone. I pray that I can raise my children to have the same love and compassion for their fellow man as these ladies do. I also pray that I will have this amount of love, courage and kindness in my life as well. Happy Sunday

Flash Back Friday! The Beginning

Jimmy and I have been married just over 7 years (all of them pure bliss), seriously we are just the most perfect couple (wink wink)!! Recently I had someone ask me what we did on our first date, and I have to say that I kind of dread that question because you see, Jimmy proposed on our first date! **Read A if you don't know our back story ***Read B if you do and you are tired of hearing it over and over and over and over......

A) For those that don't already know this, Jimmy and I have known each other since we were 9 and when his family lived in Vegas. They moved when we were 12 and we still managed to keep in contact off and on over the years. Well in July of 2002 he called and we began chatting and catching up, he flew Alexis and I out to see him a few weeks later, then while we were visiting he decided that he couldn't let me leave without putting a ring on my finger. So it was on our first date that he proposed but we had known each other for a little while before hand. Ok now continue onto B.

B) Well after I said yes and before Lexi and I headed back to Vegas we took our engagement pictures since we weren't sure when we would have the chance again. We included Lexi in many of the shots and I love looking back on them and seeing how our family began, just the three of us! Also I find happiness in seeing myself before I looked like a short, round Oompa-Loompa!

Just In Case You Thought I Have Been Sitting Around Eating Bon Bons......

Things have recently gone into hyper speed around here, not that we were bored before, but just when I was getting good at keeping the portions on my plate at a healthy level I decided to add a little more here and a little more there and now it appears to be OVERFLOWING! Sheesh, will I EVER learn?? So a run down of everyone and their busyness!

Jimmy- Working hard and earning a nice raise and insurance (coming soon thankfully), devoting many evenings to his website to get it poppin, working out with his friend Rob and getting in some deserved time away with a Guys night (he's making friends, we are so proud!! ), and still rockin the nursery where all the little girls seem to heart him!

Marylin- Still doing laundry, cooking, cleaning, started training for her first race (a 10K), enjoying her calling in YoungWomens (getting ready for New Beginnings), working on 7 different sewing projects, participating in the ward cooking and book clubs, pausing for girls nights, bathing and sleeping, and only one small nervous break down!

Met the sidewalk up close and personal after slipping on ice while running, good times!

Alexis- Loving 5th Grade, part of the reading club, getting straight A's ( a blessing), enjoying her friends, getting an allowance (when she does her chores), great big sister, messy room keeper, missing her Grandma & Grandpa Holler, and getting way too tall!

Grace- Working very hard in Kindergarten and making tons of progress, attended several friends birthday parties, roller skated for the first time, tags along with Lexi and her friends on occasion, loves to torture/play with her brother, also getting allowance with completion of chores, and making all of us laugh on a daily basis!

James (Buddy or Dude)- Decided that 1 was way too boring brought 2 in with a bang, mural drawing, new words everyday, still sleeping in his crib (amen), loves watching Matilda and Mickey Mouse Club House, finally growing into his size 24 months clothing, eats cheese like a mouse, thinks he is the funniest thing since his Dad!

Whisper (the cat)- 8 years old and lazy as ever, loves her family so very much (especially her human mom), enjoying the new family members Coco, Chanel & Princess!!

Family Update: As a whole we are all doing well, we still LOVE Colorado and the area we live in! We welcomed 3 baby Dumbo Rats into our home a few weeks ago, they have made for great pets, and the kids LOVE them! Jimmy will be signed to a new contract (in May) at the base so we will be here for at least one more year (hoping for more), we are healthy, happy and feeling at HOME! Oh we also LOVE visitors so come one, come all!!

"For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works."

Flashback Friday!! Love is In the Air so I thought I would share!

Being so close to Valentines Day I thought I would give a little "flash" love to my heartbreakin husband!

To most he is quiet, shy, reserved etc. etc. etc., you know the "strong silent" type! To me he is goofy, funny and laughs all the time. Jimmy is constantly teasing someone or everyone, especially the kids, in fact they are so use to it that most of the time they don't pay much attention. However, this week Jimmy thought he would be really funny when Grace asked him if he liked Valentines Day, he told her no and when she asked why, he gave her some lame reason like "it being too commercial" yada yada yada. She persisted and then asked him what he was getting me for Valentines day because "He just had to get Mommy something!" so he sweetly told her "Poop", that's right, my amazing husband told our 5 year old he was going to get his wife poop for Valentines! You're jealous aren't you????

This N That! HOLLA!!!

Just a few days ago I got the greatest delivery from the UPS man, the DVD with the pictures from Christmas in Vegas! Now just in case you didn't hear, while we were in Vegas we took family pictures with my family and when I went to upload them to my Mom's computer the CF (compact flash) card crashed and all the pictures from Christmas Eve/Day and Family pictures were stuck on the card with no way for us to retrieve them. After much research and asking around we went with a company called Gillware Inc. to help in recovering the data and so just last week we got the pictures and for me it was like winning the lottery!!!

Here are just a few

Sunday Scripture! A House of Order

D&C 132:8

"Behold, mine house is a house of order, saith the Lord God, and not a house of confusion."

D&C 88:119

"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God;"

Today in Young Womens the lesson was on our homes and the attention that should be paid to them. It was not about having a "perfectly clean" home but making sure that it is one of order and peace, that it will be a sanctuary for our families. It really made me think about the few corners in my home that I have allowed to be the collectors of all things that I don't know what to do with. I would say overall my house is pretty organized and clean most of the time but I do have papers/pictures that have been filed away and need to be sorted through. I also tend to let my office/guestroom/sewing room go all to kook-kamunga (just go there with me) when I am working on the rest of my house and it drives me nuts. I definitely have a hard time functioning amongst clutter and messes, I know that I am more grumpy and irritable when my home is un-kept.

My goal over the next couple weeks is to rid my home of the areas that I close the door to when guests come and to get it all in the shape that I would be proud to show. I know that my home will be a more calm place when I am more calm knowing that there aren't any little areas in desperate need of my attention. I will have more time to spend with my kids, my husband and more time serving those around me. I know that the Spirit cannot reside in a place of chaos and unorganized slothfullness (I am making it a word OK).

I am grateful to a mother who taught me to keep a clean home, to find joy in organization, and pride in feeling accomplished as a homemaker.
(Do you see the joy!?!)

I hope to teach the same to my children, not just my daughters but also my son who will someday be a very helpful husband, if all my plans go accordingly :). I don't think I realized how useful learning to iron/dust/vacuum/throw away/launder etc. etc. etc. would really be until I became a wife and mother!
Thanks Mom!!!

So if I disappear for a little bit it's because I am in the depths of my closets/drawers/hidden passage ways getting them all neat and tidy! Hey just to keep my honest I will take pics of before and after!! :)

Love to you all and Happy Sunday!

Flashback Friday! Life Just Isn't Fair......So I Have Just Gotten Use to It!

My Mom has always taught us that Life isn't fair, things will never be equal in the ways we hope or want, she often says "Life isn't fair, so just get use to it." I think that was her best come back for when we would say "But Mooooommmm, that isn't fair, she gets to....(teenager blah blah blahs)" and now I have been able to pass it along to my children, such a nice family tradition.

When I was about 15ish our family made a trip to California and we decided one afternoon to rent one of those bikes that multiple people can ride sitting side by side and peddling along the shore. Sounded great, and I was very excited until we get to the rental booth and they tell us that anyone 16 and under had to wear these HORRENDOUS bright yellow helmets!!! Um, EXCUSE me! 16 and under, really?? Well, my Mom and sisters thought it was hilarious that I would have to have a helmet, I however, found it less so. Lucky for me my Mom had her camera and felt it best to document this amazing moment in my already damaged teen years, she did also let me remove the helmet once we were out of the rental booths sight! So after years in hiding I decided it would be OK as well as therapeutic to reveal it to all of you. Go ahead, laugh, it's fine, no really, just not too loud!! :)
